  1. As far as I know, The Orient is an essentially arbitrary
  2. geographic term, and comprises China, Japan, the Koreas,
  3. Mongolia, Tibet, Vietnam, Laos, maybe Burma but I'm not sure,
  4. and probably a few others.  Geography has never been my strong
  5. subject, which I am taking steps to correct.  Asia is a
  6. continent, and includes all of the above, and also India,
  7. Nepal, Pakistan, most of Russia.  All the other countries which
  8. used to be part of the Soviet Union and are not considered to
  9. be part of the continent of Europe, and probably a few others
  10. I'm not thinking of.
